Over the years, L’Abeille has developed a strong identity of its own. Crafted with the same careful attention as Château de Fieuzal, it is conceived for light-hearted, easy-going enjoyment. Its fruit stems from the same vines as the first wine, grown with the same degree of care and preserving Fieuzal’s unique combination of freshness and finesse. Chateau Guiraud, Sauternes, 2017
First Growth. Premier Cru Classe in 1855. Every autumn a microscopic fungus called le « Botrytis Cinerea » appears and transforms the grapes. This is the famous 'noble rot' that is Nature's gift to Chateau Guiraud. In autumn the grapes take on a dark colour which can even seem austere, but this 'noble rot' is a precursor of aromatic expression. Understanding this phenomenon is essential as only the grapes that have been perfectly concentrated by the Botrytis will be picked one by one.
EPC, BLANC DE BLANCS BRUT, Coteaux du Sézannais
This refreshing cuvée from the Côteaux du Sézannais region is reminiscent of delicate exotic fruits. Its promises? Gourmandise, dynamism, and a table of guests that will be begging for a second glass.
Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut will be amazing paired with a veal onglet in a hazelnut crust, served alongside a risotto with oyster mushrooms and Comté cheese.
The Coteaux du Sezannais vineyard is a magnificent terroir spread over 12 communes and 1477 ha. Predominantly chalky soil creates an ideal environment for Chardonnay, while the presence of clay and sandy soils contributes to producing wines that are complex, ripe, and fruitier compared to those from the northern region.
Jean-Philippe Janoueix, Château Croix Mouton, Bordeaux Superieur, 2017
Ch. Croix Mouton is a wine that surpasses its appellation, which means that the quality is higher than one would expect. The estate is in hands of Jean-Philippe Janoueix, same owner as Ch. La Confession (St. Emilion) and Ch. La Croix St. Georges (Pomerol). Small returns (46hl/ha), cultivation of the soil, leaf removal, sorting out when harvesting, use of gravity when putting the grapes in the cuvees, elevation on new oak, etc… all those things contribute to top quality for a very reasonable price. Jean-Philippe Janoueix is a very precise person, which reflects in the quality of his wines. Do also read my comments on his newly bought chateau Cap Saint Georges (Saint Georges in St. Emilion), and his other wines mentioned above.
